Fans Urge Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of Ariana Grande are urging that a man who jumped a barrier and seized the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account features recordings of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented another message on Instagram.
Some fans also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while some called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it started.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two very different witches.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
