Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
